The City of Love

Choosing France for a destination wedding is a no-brainer — think cobbled streets steeped in history and stunning architecture and scenery at every turn. It’s easy to say oui to a whirlwind wedding celebration in one of the world’s most romantic countries! But hold on, can you legally get married there? 

Unless you or one of your parent’s are residents of France (with proof of residency 30 days prior to applying for your marriage license), the short answer is no. Most foreign couples will have a civil ceremony in their home country, and choose to have a religious or symbolic ceremony in France instead. 

If you want to get married in a French church (so many stunning options!), you’ll need to provide your marriage certificate from back home. For a secular or symbolic ceremony, you can hire a professional celebrant but sometimes, an eloquent planner will do!
